Review

The Power of God reaches to the very core of the questions, What is the power by which God created the worlds, and how can that power be exercised by man?  The author draws on a vast array of scriptures and statements by Church leaders to show that the power of God is Faith. He explains that faith differs from "belief," "knowledge" and "positive thinking," and dispels misunderstandings that arise when the term faith is used as a synonym for strong belief. With great clarity, he shows that the power of God is not exercised contrary to His will, no matter what level of belief a man may possess. This faith is not created by man, but comes as a gift from God.
The author then examines the exercise of God's gifts of faith directly, through prayer. He explains that good works are necessary to the exercise of God's power, and that "spiritual light" is essential for its exercise to be fruitful.  Spiritual light is carefully studied to show that it is an attribute of God and the means by which spiritual things are communicated to man. He distinguishes between this light and the concepts of testimony, confidence, trust in God and other attributes.
Then he reviews the nature of priesthood authority, explaining differences between inward and outward ordinances and the various functions of the priesthood as they relate to the use of God's power. The limitations God has put on the use of His power are discussed, and the difference between prayer and priesthood ordinances is explained. The effects of unworthiness are studied, and the author shares his deep insights into the ordinance of healing.
Thoroughly researched and precisely annotated, this book provides a truly understandable explanation of faith as a power which God makes available to the righteous. It is a unique and invaluable aid to all who seek greater spiritual understanding and more effective participation in the exercise of God's almighty power.
