Review

We pray for it to touch our minds and hearts. We ask that it be with us. We speak of it in almost every Church meeting. Yet, even though we say and hear it often, the term "God's Spirit" can sometimes be confusing. For those who are mystified by things as simple as an ordinary light bulb, it is difficult to begin to comprehend the complexity and amazing power of the Holy Spirit.
But Gaining the Fulness presents many doctrinal concepts concerning the Spirit with precision and clarity, making them much easier to understand. The authors combine their explanations with true accounts of manifestations of the Holy Ghost, making their book a dynamic, highly motivational presentation. They begin with the simple formula: "Obey a commandment–receive a portion of God's Spirit," and observe that "having God's Spirit to
be with us is not an 'either-or' situation. In this life, His Spirit is shed forth upon each of us in varying degrees. The amount of it which we receive is directly correlated to our personal righteousness."
The chapters which follow expand on the formula. They tell "How to Borrow Light" and explain about "Accepting the Gift." Observing that withdrawal of Spirit is the result of disobedience to divine commandments, they focus on the Lord's atonement, asserting that "it is necessary that we, through baptism and through sincere repentance, actually allow our Savior to pay for our transgressions."
Other chapters add more insights: "Reward Restored," "My Voice is Spirit," "Listen to the Voice," "Stand with Brightness," "Spirit and Priesthood," and " A Matter of Matter ." The final chapters discuss true faith and "Learning by Faith." They explain the relationship between Spirit, truth and the glory of God. "Estate Planning" and "The Fulness" describe man's ultimate objective, defining both "The Price and the Prize."
The teachings found in this volume have tremendous spiritual power. They will change the life of all who read it who are truly intent on Gaining the Fulness.
